The Museum (Archives nationales de Paris) presents the history of French state archives with a selection of historical documents that made up the history of France. For example, it shows the last letter written by Marie Antoinette before her beheading and the Edit de Nantes.

Housed in the Hotel de Soubise and opened to the public in 1867, the “Archives nationales” museum was created by Léon de Laborde then general director of the archives of the Empire.

Jewish art and history museum

With seven hundred artworks and objects, the permanent collection of the Jewish art and history museum proposes a history of the Jewish communities of Europe and the Mediterranean from the Middle Ages to today. The collections feature costumes, objects of worship, works of art, manuscripts, texts…

The museum is located in the beautiful Hotel Saint-Aignan built in the seventeenth century in the Marais district.

Maillol Museum

Cernuschi Museum

The Cernuschi Museum (Paris 8th), or Museum of Asian Arts, displays collections of art from China and other Asian civilizations including Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

Situated in the quiet Parc Monceau the architecture of the museum is itself remarkable.

Petit Palais – Fine Arts

Built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, the “Petit Palais” (Paris 8th) has a painted and sculpted décor, mosaics and stained glass windows which constitute an exceptional decorative ensemble of the first third of the 20th century.

The building houses the Museum of Fine Arts which presents works of Western art, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts etc. dating from antiquity to the early twentieth century.

Entrance to the permanent collections of the museum is free.

Jacquemart-André Museum

The museum (Paris 8th), built between 1869 and 1876, was the wealthy home of a collector couple, Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart.

Their exceptional collections, acquired during their many travels in Italy and the Middle East, make it an exceptional place both because of the sumptuousness of the decor and because of the quality of the art works, particularly the Italian works from the fourteenth to the sixteenth century.

Carnavalet Museum

The Carnavalet museum highlights Paris’s past and the city’s diverse personality.

In 1880, the museum opened in one of the most famous Renaissance-era hotels. Built from 1548 to 1560, it is a rare example of Renaissance architecture in Paris.

The Carnavalet museum is closed for renovation till the end of 2019.

With more than one hundred thousand works of art, the Center Georges Pompidou, also known as Beaubourg, is one of the largest museums of modern art in the world.

The Georges Pompidou Center opened in 1977 in a modernist building designed by the architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers.

Orangerie Museum

Since the Musée de l’Orangerie’s reopening in May 2006, one can rediscover in natural daylight the paintings known as the Nymphéas (the Water Lilies) by the impressionist artist Claude Monet.

There are two compelling reasons to visit l’Orangerie : Claude Monet’s Nymphéas (the Water Lilies), and the superb Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume collection which comprises 146 works, from the 1860s to the 1930s. This collection includes beautiful works by impressionist artists as Renoir, Cézanne… as well as works from the 20th century by Derain, Soutine, Picasso, Matisse, Utrillo…
