Liberation of Paris Museum – Jean Moulin Museum

The Museum (Mémorial du général Leclerc et de la Libération de Paris – Musée Jean Moulin) traces the action of “three companions of the Liberation” during the Second World War: General Leclerc Hauteclocque, head of the 2nd DB, Jean Moulin, leader of the Resistance and the City of Paris.

The Museum closed its doors to the public on July 1, 2018 to prepare for its move to new buildings, Place Denfert-Rochereau (Paris 14th). The inauguration of the new museum is scheduled for August 25, 2019.

Organized by theme, the Police museum (Musée de la préfecture de Police ) traces the history of the Parisian police from the 17th century to the present day and highlights the evolution of various types of policing.

The Police museum is located on the third floor of the police station of the 5th district of Paris, Rue de la Montagne-Sainte-Genevieve.

Entry to the museum is free.

Cluny Museum

This national museum of the Middle Ages (Paris 5th) has the unique feature of being housed in a medieval dwelling backed onto ancient Gallo-Roman baths that are open to visitors.

The Cluny Museum collections include tapestries, paintings, illuminations, sculptures, objets d’art and furniture reflecting the art of living from the early Middle Ages to the fifteenth century.

Museum of the History of Medicine

The museum, whose collections are the oldest in Europe (including chirurgical instruments dating back to the 18th century), is devoted to the history of medicine, medical progress and advances in the discipline.

It is housed in an old library of Paris-Descartes University dating from 1905, in the 6th district of Paris.

The museum is located in the beautiful Hotel Saint-Aignan built in the seventeenth century in the Marais district.

Crypte archéologique du parvis Notre-Dame

The Archaeological Crypt (Paris 4^th) presents a panorama of the urban and architectural development of the “Ile de la Cité”, the historic heart of Paris. It shows how the city has constantly been rebuilt over a period of more than two thousand years.

The crypt was built in 1980 under the esplanade of Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Because of the catastrophic Notre-Dame fire, the Archaeological Crypt is temporarily closed.

The Hôtel National des Invalides site (Paris 7th) is open to the public every day of the year.

The visitors can find here a lot of places of interest : three museums – the Army museum, the museum of the Order of the Liberation and the Relief map museum – as well as The Dome (tomb of Napoleon) and the Saint-Louis Cathedral.
It gives access to different departments of the permanent collections such as From Saint Louis to Louis XIV, From Louis XIV to Napoleon III, the extraordinary cabinets, the Historial Charles de Gaulle…

Original temporary exhibitions are also programmed in the museum.

Opened in June 2006, the museum (Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac) is dedicated to so-called primitive indigenous or “Arts premiers” from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania.

It preserves nearly 370,000 works that illustrate the cultural diversity of the non-European civilizations of the Neolithic era (+/- 10,000 years) to the 20th century. The collection includes everyday objects, masks, totems, clothing, ceremonial costumes, religious objects, sculptures , jewels, musical instruments…
